1989 - De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising - 3.5/5 This was fun but probably just a one-time listen. They definitely have that rap tone of the late 80s/early 90s, which I do enjoy. It was silly and I enjoyed the music itself a lot, though I know a good bit was 60s music sampled. Or at least that’s what it seemed like but I really have no idea.

2020 - The Weeknd - After Hours - 3/5 It’s fine, a lot of it sounds the same. It sounds like The Weeknd. Blinding Lights is the exception and my favorite track on the album. It’s a single for a reason. I got exactly what I was expecting from this album. I do wish Save Your Tears was the version with my girl Ari.

1980 - AC/DC - Back in Black - 4/5 Pretty solid album, which is saying nothing new. I mean it’s AC/DC. The vocals can get grating after a while but I enjoyed it anyway. I knew I would like it because my dad loved it when he was younger (and he’s cool).

2011 - Florence + the Machine - Ceremonials - 1/5 This is not for me. It’s so dated to the era and makes me cringe hard. Her voice is nice but that is literally the only thing I like about it. It sounds like 2011 radio music (derogatory (and also because it was 2011 radio music)). I couldn’t make it through the entire album; so sorry to anyone suffering being a fan.

1967 - Aretha Franklin - I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You - 4/5 This was enjoyable and obviously her voice is magnificent. Interestingly, I like Greta van Fleet’s version of A Change is Gonna Come a lot more than Aretha’s, which I feel bad for saying. I did overall really enjoy the album though! I think I like R&B more than I thought I did.

1961 - The Shirelles - Tonight’s the Night - 2.5/5 This is fine for what it is, but it feels very commercial, and probably in an exploitative way. I didn’t love some of the vocals and the lyric content was very shallow at points, more so than usual for 60’s pop. Will You Love Me Tomorrow was a highlight though.

1989 - Madonna - Like a Prayer - 3.5/5 It’s a fine album, the second half is far superior to the first. I really enjoyed Cherish and Dear Jessie. I remember the chorus to Cherish, I think my mom would play that sometimes when I was little. I do NOT like Love Song (the Prince duet). The songs are kind of long too, which could just be because everything is so short these days. I enjoyed the last track, Act of Contrition. It’s weird and almost feels like a modern electronic track à la Charli xcx.

2014 - St. Vincent - St. Vincent - 2/5 It’s alright, I guess. I think this genre is not for me (art rock). To me it seems like someone trying to be weird just for the sake of it, which comes off as inauthentic. Also, I’ve heard actual weird so this doesn’t really hit for me. I could just be being a hater. But that’s what I feel, sorry about it! (not really).
I've started a project to listen to a bunch of new-to-me music. I have a huge list of albums to try out and am listening to random ones. First up:

1960 - Etta James - At Last! - 4/5. Gorgeous, rich vocals. I preferred the songs with just Etta, but enjoyed the ones with Harvey too. A Sunday Kind of Love was a highlight, so good. I love the music itself too, not just the vocals. Everything about it sounds so rich. Already listened to my favorites from the album again and will definitely be keeping this album in my library. I’ll listen to more Etta, too. Off to a very strong start!
